As the 2024/25 season progresses, CD Leganes goalkeepers squad has assembled a strong and diverse group of players, each bringing their own unique experiences and skills to the team. Let’s take a deep dive into the club’s current shot stopping squad for this season.

Marko Dmitrović

Born on January 24, 1992, in Subotica, Serbia, Marko Dmitrović began his football journey with Red Star Belgrade’s youth academy. Although he didn’t make a senior appearance for the club, he gained valuable experience before moving to Hungarian side Újpest FC in September 2013. Dmitrović made his professional debut on March 1, 2014, against Budapest Honvéd FC, showcasing his potential as a reliable goalkeeper. His impressive performances caught the attention of English club Charlton Athletic, leading to a transfer in January 2015.

Seeking more consistent playing time, he joined Spanish outfit AD Alcorcón on loan in July 2015, a move that became permanent the following year. His time at Alcorcón was marked by solid displays, which earned him a transfer to La Liga side SD Eibar in June 2017. At Eibar, Dmitrović established himself as a dependable presence between the posts, contributing significantly over several seasons. In July 2021, he signed with Sevilla FC, furthering his experience in Spain’s top tier. On August 11, 2024, Dmitrović joined CD Leganes goalkeepers roster on a free transfer, bringing with him a wealth of experience from top-flight football.

In the current season, Dmitrović has been a standout performer for Leganés. He has been instrumental in key victories, including matches against Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona, where his goalkeeping prowess earned him individual accolades. Notably, he was named Man of the Match in these high-profile games and was recognized as Leganés’ Player of the Month in December. His remarkable saves have not gone unnoticed, as he secured the Save of the Month award twice—once in September for a crucial stop against Arambarri and more recently for a spectacular save against Raphinha. Currently, Dmitrović ranks as the fifth goalkeeper with the most saves in La Liga, totaling 51 stops, despite joining the season later than his peers. His contract with Leganés is set to expire at the end of the season, but there is an option for extension based on performance objectives.

Juan Soriano

Juan Soriano Oropesa, born on August 23, 1997, in Benacazón, Spain, is a product of Sevilla FC’s youth academy. He made his first-team debut during the 2018/19 season, including appearances in the UEFA Europa League. Seeking regular first-team action, Soriano was loaned to CD Leganes goalkeepers squad for the 2019/20 season, where he featured in fourteen official matches, gaining valuable experience in La Liga.

Subsequent loan spells included a season with Málaga CF, further honing his skills in Spain’s competitive leagues. In 2021, he signed with CD Tenerife, becoming a standout performer over three seasons in the Segunda División, amassing 127 appearances and maintaining a commendable record of clean sheets. In 2024, Soriano returned to CD Leganés, signing a three-year contract, bringing back his refined goalkeeping abilities to Butarque.

Iván ‘Pichu’ Cuéllar

Iván Cuéllar Sacristán, affectionately known as ‘Pichu’, was born on May 27, 1984, in Mérida, Spain. His early career saw him rise through the ranks of Atlético Madrid’s youth system, making his first-team debut in the 2004/05 season. In August 2008, seeking regular playing time, he transferred to Sporting de Gijón, where he became a mainstay in goal over a nine-year tenure.

In July 2017, Cuéllar signed with CD Leganes goalkeepers lineup, stepping in as the primary goalkeeper due to an injury to Jon Ander Serantes. His initial stint with Leganés was marked by a personal best clean sheet streak of over 500 minutes. After a return to Sporting Gijón in 2021 and a brief period with RCD Mallorca in 2023, Cuéllar rejoined Leganés, bringing his extensive experience and leadership back to the squad.

CD Leganés’ goalkeeping department for the 2024/25 season is a blend of seasoned veterans and players in their prime, each contributing a rich tapestry of experiences from various tiers of Spanish football and beyond. This diverse mix ensures that the team is well-equipped to face the challenges of the season, with a reliable last line of defense guarding their goalposts.
